Elms 111, Mount Ida 79

CHICOPEE, Mass. — Elms College junior point guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) recorded a season-high 18 points and 10 assists, and the Blazers erupted for 61 first half points en route to a convincing 111-79 win over Mount Ida College in Wednesday night’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

The Blazers won for the fifth time in their last six games to improve to 7-4 overall, 2-0 NAC and had 14 players score – including five who reached double figures.

Elms College, which eclipsed the 100-point for a school-record third time this season, has scored 92 or more points in each of its last four games and has averaged 97.8 points during that stretch.

Mount Ida, which was playing its first game since December 15, lost its seventh straight game to fall to 1-11 overall, 0-4 NAC.

Sophomore forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA), senior forward Lonnie Branyon III (West Haven, CT) and junior guard David Williams (Hartford, CT) all netted 13 points apiece for the Blazers, who scored on their first seven possessions to build a 20-8 lead in the game’s opening 3:36.

Elms College held a decisive advantage in points off turnovers (28-6) in the opening half to build a commanding 61-39 lead at intermission. The Blazers forced the Mustangs into 31 total turnovers for the game.

Junior guard Andreas Vasiliu (Newton, MA) and sophomore guard Mike Dunham (Salem, NH) did all they could to keep the Mustangs close. Vasiliu struck for a game-high 20 points and Dunham added 17 points. The two combined to shoot 9 of 15 from 3-point range.

Junior guard Justin Davis (Dix Hills, NY) added 11 points, including three 3-pointers to also reach double figures for the Blazers in Wednesday night’s win.

Elms College returns to NAC play on Saturday, January 14 at Lasell College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
