NEW LONDON, Conn. — Craig Johnson and Jeff Prebeck each had double-doubles as Coast Guard jumped out to a 24-4 lead and cruised to a 105-75 win over Mitchell in the first ever meeting between the two New London schools at Coast Guard’s John Merriman Gym.
Johnson had 17 points and 12 rebounds while Prebeck added 13 points and 12 rebounds. Al Sowers led Coast Guard with a game-high 19 points to go with six assists. Grant Johnson led the Bears with seven assists.
The Bears (8-2) shot 52.9 percent from the floor (36-68) while shooting a sizzling 46.7 percent from three-point range making 14 of 30.
Coast Guard led 52-24 at halftime.
David Andrade, Jamal Foster and T.J. Smith all had 16 points to lead the Pequots (1-12). James Dunleavy added 10 points for Mitchell.
