With 1:28 remaining Wheaton’s Tony Bollier hit the first of two free throws to give his team a 61-55 lead. He missed the second one and Augustana’s Shaun Rose collared the rebound. Harrigan drained a three pointer from the corner in front of his own bench at 1:17 to trim the advantage to 61-58 and he was fouled by John Mohan in the process. His free throw made the score 61-59.
The Thunder’s Jordan Kemper missed a three pointer at :50 and the ball went out of bounds on the miss and was awarded to Augustana. Harrigan was fouled by Tony Bollier with :40 left and he made both free throws to tie the game at 61-61. Wheaton turned the ball over with :10 left and Harrigan scooped it up, passed it Drew Wessels and the Vikings raced down the court. Wessels got the ball back to Harrigan and with :01 left on the clock he nailed a three pointer to give the Vikings a 64-61 lead. After a Wheaton timeout the Thunder had a chance to tie it but Andy Wiele’s three point attempt at the buzzer was not close.
Augustana overcame a poor shooting performance, hitting just .393 (22-56) from the floor for the game. The Vikings led by eight (40-32) with 13:07 left in the game but Wheaton used a 15-5 run to take a 47-45 lead with 7:35 left on a three point field goal by Dave Noell. Besides Harrigan’s 30 points, Jay McAdams-Thornton had 15. Nate Swetalla led the team in rebounding with eight as Augustana forged a 38-34 advantage in that department. Wessels had five assists.
Wheaton put four players in double figures with Kemper and Andy Wiele each scoring 12 and Mohan and Bollier adding 10. Mohan also grabbed eight rebounds while Bollier had five assists.
Augustana moved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW with the win while Wheaton fell to 4-8 and 0-1.
