Cortland led by as many as nine points in the first half and took a 29-22 lead into intermission. The Red Dragons led the entire second half, with the margin fluctuating between four and nine points most of the way. Ranieri’s layup with 5:26 left gave Cortland its first double-figure lead at 58-47. The advantage was at 10 points at 63-53 when Maggiacomo hit a three-pointer with 3:37 remaining, but a Medina layup at the 3:25 mark and a Eric Bratt (Roslyn) three-point play with 2:40 left drew the hosts within 63-58.
Following a timeout, Ranieri hit a layup with 2:13 left to push the lead to seven. Oneonta made one free throw on its next possession and Skrelja’s layup with 1:36 left gave Cortland a 67-59 lead. Murphy hit a layup with 1:25 on the clock to cut the lead back to six. Cortland, 7-of-16 from the foul line to that point, made seven of its last eight free throws, including four by Jutton, to seal the win.
Cortland shot 57 percent from the field in the second half and 45 percent for the game. The Red Dragons held a 47-26 rebounding advantage, 23-9 on the offensive boards.
