It was a tale of two halves as Johnson State erupted for eight threes in the first half and then battled Daniel Webster even in the second half to escape with a 90-75 win. Junior guard Tim Santarcangelo led the trey parade with five in the initial half while teammate senior Frank Ponte carried the team in the second half on nine of 10 shooting. Santarcangelo had a total of 21 points while Ponte finished with 24. For the Eagles, a foursome of Greg Floyd (13) Neal Foley (11), Dan Haynes (11) and Kenny Ouellette (11) led the spirited comeback. Trailing by 15, the Eagles trimmed the lead down to six with six minutes remaining, only to have the Badgers make their free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Johnson State was 28 of 39 from the charity stripe. Justin Van Dyke played a solid game for the Eagles with eight points and four assists and four steals. Senior Chris Boone added to his block total with three and also added to the offense with six points. Boone (12) and Foley (13) teamed up to nab 25 of the 54 DWC rebounds. The Eagles host Southern Vermont Thursday at 7 pm., while the women travel to Wheelock College today to open their second semester season.
