STORM LAKE, Iowa — Jake Lappe scored a game-high 20 points to lead Luther College to a 75-60 Iowa Conference men's basketball victory over Buena Vista University on Tuesday. It marked the first time the Norse have won in Storm Lake since January 19, 1996.

Luther made 11 more free throws and committed to 11 fewer turnovers than Buena Vista while picking up the road conference victory. The Norse shot 25 of 56 (45%) from the field while the Beavers shot 23 of 55 (42%).

Matt Wittry led Buena Vista, which was playing its first home game in 42 days, with 13 points. Rahn Franklin was next in line with nine points.

Clutching to a 20-18 lead, Luther went on a 12-6 run to close out the first half. That run was capped off by Andy Rump's long-distance 3-pointer to beat the buzzer.

Buena Vista would get no closer than eight points in the second half as the Luther lead ballooned to as much as 20. The loss snapped the Beavers' 11 game winning streak against the Norse.

Rump ended the game with 16 points while Garrett Pool contributed 12 points. Andy Campbell added 10 points as Luther won despite getting outrebounded 41-29.

Brian Fogleman grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and registered eight points for Buena Vista. Jesse Schmidt added eight points and six rebounds before fouling out with two minutes to play.

Luther improved to 8-5 with the victory and 2-2 in the IIAC. Buena Vista fell to 4-9 overall, 2-2 in the conference. The Beavers will return to action on Wednesday, January 18 by traveling to Wartburg College.
