BRONX, N.Y. — Women’s Hoops Drops Lehman, 63-47

Four Rangers scored in double figures as Drew cruised past Lehman, 63-47, in the Bronx last night. Courtney Cunningham scored a team-high 17 while Maggie Marquis added 15 as the Rangers evened their record at 6-6. Sally Nnamani led all scorers with 19 points for the Lightning.

The Rangers put the game away in the first half when they built a 29-5 lead going into the break. Pam Kakalec scored all ten of her points in the first period as the Drew defense held Lehman to just two field goals. The Rangers stretched the lead to as many as 33 points in the second half before Lehman closed the gap in the final minutes.

Cunningham led the team with 17 points while also pulling down eight rebounds and handing out three assists. Marquis, who ranks second in the Freedom conference, recorded five assists to go with her 15 points. Melissa Kraft had a strong all-around game despite a tough shooting night to register 11 points, eight boards, five assists and two steals. Genie Valantassis led the team with nine rebounds. The Rangers recorded 21 assists on their 24 field goals.

The win marks the end of the out-of-conference schedule for Drew as Freedom play kicks into high gear this week. A mid-week trip to Delaware Valley on Wednesday is followed by home games against Lycoming and FDU-Florham.
