Smith was joined on the tourney team by teammate Mario Lancioni (Runnermede, NJ), who had 11 points. Union was represented by senior guard Brian Scordato (Mt. Kisco, NY/Horace Greeley) and senior guard John Cagianello (Wethersfield, CT/Loomis Chaffee). Scordato led the Dutchmen with a double-double, 21 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with four assists and two steals. Cagianello finished with 16 points, while Chris Murphy (Hastings-on-Hudson/Iona Prep) dished out a game-high seven assists for Union.
Rounding out the all-tournament team were Oneonta forward Jaysen Murphy (East Elmhurst, NY) and College of St. Joseph forward Ian Nimblett (Vergennes, VT).
Miguel Rodriguez (Passaic, NJ) scored 11 points and led Richard Stockton on the glass with eight rebounds. Kevin Holmes (Atlantic City, NJ) added 10 points for the Ospreys. Richard Stockton (9-2) shot 44% for the game and outrebounded the Dutchmen (7-4), 36-29, including 15-9 on the offensive glass. The Ospreys, leaders 22-20 at halftime, shot 62% (16-26) in the second half in scoring 44 points. Union was also hot in the second half, shooting 56% from the floor.
The Dutchmen open up Liberty League play on Tuesday night at home against Skidmore at 8 p.m.
In the Consolation game, senior guard Josh Wysocki (Hoosick Falls, NY) scored 14 points and added six rebounds to lead Oneonta State to an 83-53 victory over The College of St. Joseph of Vermont in the 2006 Sig Makofski Invitational Consolation Game at Union College’s Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 6-3 while the Fighting Saints fell to 2-11.
Junior forward Jayson Murphy (E. Elmhurst, NY) and junior guard Michael Reardon (Staten Island, NY) added 13 points each for Oneonta, which took a 39-25 lead at halftime. Sophomore forward Matt Latino (Poughkeepsie, NY) had a team-high eight rebounds for the Red Dragons. Oneonta shot 46% for the game and forced 20 Fighting Saint turnovers, while finishing with a 45-41 rebounding advantage.
Three players had eight points each to lead St. Joseph, Ian Nimblett (Vergennes, VT), Nick Loomis (Poultney, VT) and Ryan Kimball (Monkton, VT). Rich Ortega (New York, NY) had a game best eight rebounds for St. Joseph. The Fighting Saints shot 31% for the day.
