Randolph-Macon 76, Guilford 71

ASHLAND, Va. — The Randolph-Macon College men’s basketball team earned two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) wins at home the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, January 7th and 8th. The Yellow Jackets beat Guilford College, 76-71 in overtime, Saturday, and Emory & Henry College, 104-89, Sunday. The victories made Randolph-Macon, ranked #17 in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com poll, 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the ODAC. Guilford dropped to 4-7 on the season and 2-2 in the conference, while Emory & Henry fell to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the ODAC.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 7TH
Randolph-Macon College 76, Guilford College 71 OVERTIME

There were two lead changes in the first half, and Guilford was ahead at the break by four points, 27-23. The second half included five ties, and the score at the end of regulation was 62-62.

In the overtime period, Guilford led 64-62 before two foul shots by Randolph-Macon senior guard Patrick Gill tied things up at 64-64. That began a 14-7 run by the Yellow Jackets, giving them the victory.

Randolph-Macon was led by freshman guard David Carlson, who tied his career-high with 23 points and also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds. Senior forward Justin Wansley totaled 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Phil Hawley had nine points, eight rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots. He made 7-of-8 foul shots (87.5%).

For Guilford, junior guard Jordan Snipes had 22 points and five rebounds. Sophomore center Ben Strong scored 13 points, making 7-of-8 free throws (87.5%). Junior guard Thomas Burge had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 8TH
Randolph-Macon College 104, Emory & Henry College 89

The first half featured 11 lead changes and two ties. Randolph-Macon was up 44-42 at halftime. The Yellow Jackets never trailed in the second half, and led by as many as 17 points, 75-58, almost midway through the period.

A 26-12 run by the Wasps reduced the deficit to three points, 87-84, with 4:26 left in the contest. But Randolph-Macon outscored the visitors 17-5 down the stretch to close things out.

Leading Randolph-Macon were Wansley, with 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting (77.8%) and a game-high 12 rebounds (all defensive), and junior guard Adam Krovic, who also scored 22 points and tied his career-high with six rebounds. Krovic shot 9-for-12 from the floor (75.0%). Hawley added 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting (70.0%) and 10 rebounds.

Also for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore forward Jeremy Dixon made all eight of his field goal attempts, for a career-high 16 points, in 20 minutes of reserve action. Freshman forward Alex Irmer came off the bench to score a career-high 11 points on perfect 5-for-5 shooting in just eight minutes. As a team, Randolph-Macon shot 71.9%, and the Yellow Jackets did not attempt any three-point field goals.

Emory & Henry was led by sophomore guard Shavar Bland, with 15 points. Freshman forward Bryan Sexton added 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Cain Landreth scored 10 points, making 7-of-7 free throws.
