Robert Morris led 41-29 at halftime after the Eagles shot a dismal 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from the field in the first period. In fact, the visitors held Edgewood to just two field goals during the first 16 minutes of play.
Edgewood played much better in the second period, shooting an even 56.0 percent from the floor. However, the Eagles’ saving grace may have been at the free throw line where they shot 28-of-34 (82.4 percent) for the game.
Johnsen, who knocked down all four of the Eagle’s baskets from beyond the arc, drained three three-pointers in the second half en route to a game-high 24 points. His three-point bucket with 15 seconds on the clock cut the Robert Morris lead down to two points at 74-72, but with a pair of defenders in his face Johnsen couldn’t get that shot to fall again on the team’s next and final possession.
The Eagles tallied eight blocked shots on the defensive end, which was one block shy of their season high of nine swats against UW-La Crosse. Freshman Jon Ciche led Edgewood with four rejections to bring his team-leading blocked shot total to 23, while Charlie Averkamp finished with three blocks.
Averkamp was held to a season-low seven points and three rebounds. Chris DeMarco added 14 points and was 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. Seth Cooper scored 10 points.
Three Robert Morris players garnered double figures in scoring led by 22 points from Corley Lee. Tim Hahn scored 15 points followed by Tyler Moretto who had 13 points.
