Coast Guard 76, Springfield 62

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Jeff Prebeck had a game-high 27 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as Coast Guard came back from a 16-point first half deficit to beat Springfield 76-62 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Springfield jumped out to an 18-4 lead with 14:20 left in the first half and the Pride had its biggest lead at 24-8 with 11:28 left in the half.
Coast Guard (6-2, 1-1) scored 11 straight points as Prebeck hit three three-pointers in the run to cut the Pride lead to to 24-19. Prebeck would hit all five of this three-point attempts in the first half and finish with 19 points in the first 20 minutes.
Springfield led 41-31 at halftime as Derek Yvon hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to finish the half with 14 points.
The Pride led 48-38 with 14:06 left before Coast Guard outscored Springfield 18-3 to take a 56-51 lead with 8:28 left. The Bears took the lead for good at 52-51 on a layup by Steve Blum with 9:32 to go.
Coast Guard extended the lead to 64-54 with 5:13 to go and the Bears cruised from that point on.
Yvon, the NEWMAC’s leading scorer, was held to two points in the second half as Springfield was held to just eight field goals (8-26) in the second half.
Craig Johnson had 17 points and 10 rebounds while Blum added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears. Al Sowers was also in double figures for the Bears with 10 points and a game-high five assists as the Bears snapped a four-game slide against the Pride.
Yvon finished with 16 points to lead Springfield, Damian Farley had 14 points while Brian Riley and Gregg Daly each added 10 points for the Pride (4-9, 0-1).
