The victory broke NYU's nine-game losing streak to Rochester, who are currently ranked #18 in the latest d3hoops.com Poll. It was the Violets' first win over the Yellowjackets (7-3, 0-2) since December 1, 2000.
In their University Athletic Association opener, the Violets led by as many as 11 points in the first half before a 12-0 Rochester run gave the Yellowjackets a 28-27 lead late in the opening stanza.
However, junior Jason Boone's 40-footer at the halftime buzzer gave NYU a 30-28 lead at the intermission. It was a lead the Violets would never relinquish.
NYU opened the second half with a 28-8 streak and took a game-high 22-point lead on junior Matt Basford's three-pointer with 6:49 remaining in the contest.
NYU never led by less than 14 points the rest of the way.
Senior Jared Kildare led the Violets with 18 points. He also added a career-high eight rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Boone finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high five blocks. Basford finished with 13 points, as did junior Michael DeCorso.
Jon Onyiriuka led Rochester with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
NYU's 11-0 start is tied for the best in the team's Division III. The 1994-95 team also began 11-0.
NYU, a former Division I school, began play at the Division III level in 1982.
