New York University 68, Rochester 50

NEW YORK, NY — The New York University men's basketball team upped its 2005-06 record to a perfect 11-0 with a 68-50 victory over the University of Rochester on Friday, January 6, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The victory broke NYU's nine-game losing streak to Rochester, who are currently ranked #18 in the latest d3hoops.com Poll. It was the Violets' first win over the Yellowjackets (7-3, 0-2) since December 1, 2000.

In their University Athletic Association opener, the Violets led by as many as 11 points in the first half before a 12-0 Rochester run gave the Yellowjackets a 28-27 lead late in the opening stanza.

However, junior Jason Boone's 40-footer at the halftime buzzer gave NYU a 30-28 lead at the intermission. It was a lead the Violets would never relinquish.

NYU opened the second half with a 28-8 streak and took a game-high 22-point lead on junior Matt Basford's three-pointer with 6:49 remaining in the contest.

NYU never led by less than 14 points the rest of the way.

Senior Jared Kildare led the Violets with 18 points. He also added a career-high eight rebounds and a game-high five assists.

Boone finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high five blocks. Basford finished with 13 points, as did junior Michael DeCorso.

Jon Onyiriuka led Rochester with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

NYU's 11-0 start is tied for the best in the team's Division III. The 1994-95 team also began 11-0.

NYU, a former Division I school, began play at the Division III level in 1982.
