The Hendrix men’s basketball team forced their second conference overtime game in three games but came out short handed in an 84-78 loss to Millsaps College Friday night in Jackson, Miss for their first SCAC loss of the season.
The Warriors (8-4, 2-1) erased a five-point deficit at half scoring 41 points in the second period. Hendrix shot 54 percent in the second half. Millsaps held a small lead from the 15:15 minute mark through to the end of the half. But with Hendrix trailing by three points, junior Matt Secrease hit a clutch three-pointer with 0:03 left in the game to tie the score at 66-66.
In overtime the Majors (6-5, 1-1) jumped out to a nine point lead despite an Andrew King jumper and a Ryan Wible three-point shot in the final 10 seconds. Millsaps shot 5-6 from the field and 8-9 from the free-throw line in overtime to capture the win.
King led the Warriors with 20 points on 8-9 shooting while pulling down seven boards. Michael Bennett added 18 points with two three-pointers. Justin Jaramillo contributed with 13 points and was a perfect 3-3 from the line. Millsap’s leading scorers were Tyler Warren with 27 points and Edrick Montgomery with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The Warriors head east to Atlanta, Georgia to face off against Oglethorpe University on Sunday with a 1:00 pm tip-off.
