Corey Diamond’s three-pointer with under eight minutes remaining in the first have gave the Saints their largest lead, an 11-point edge. Ramel Phillips’ free throw on the next play kicked off an 11-3 run by the Panthers, and Michael Garrett’s three-pointer capped it off with Old Westbury down 23-20 with 2:21 to go in the half. Russell Brereton ended the half with a lay-up that pulled Old Westbury within two at the break.
In the second half, Kyle O’Connor sank a three for Marymount, giving the Saints an eight-point lead with under 10 minutes remaining. The Panthers closed to within two three minutes later on a basket by Roman Pettway.
Marymount answered with a 13-0 run, connecting eight times from the foul line during the stretch, and built a 15-point lead with 39 seconds remaining in the game. Alex Stephenson’s three-pointer with one second on the clock for Old Westbury made the final score 64-53.
Pettway and Brereton led Old Westbury with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Mike Gray led all scorers with 18 for Marymount, while Bryant Majors added 16 in the win.
Old Westbury will face North Carolina Wesleyan in the consolation round tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
