CCNY 65, New York City Tech 48

NEW YORK, NY — The CCNY Lady Beavers earned their first win of the 2005-06 season by besting the New York College of Technology by 65-48 at Nat Holman Gymnasium. In controlling the game from start to finish, the Beavers moved to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the City of New York Athletic Conference.

The Beavers received huge outings from freshmen Johanna Ortiz and Latoya Noblin as both registered double figures in points and rebounds.

Ortiz, a 5'11" forward from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, New York, recorded 16 points and a game high 21 rebounds. Noblin, a 5'7" guard from Queens, NY and Long Island City High School, also scored16 points to go along with 14 rebounds.

Two other Lady Beavers reached double-digits in points as Stephanie Cruz, a 5'8" freshman guard from Brooklyn, NY and Grover Cleveland High School had 13. Marcella Dawson, a 5'9" sophomore forward from the Bronx and Julia Richman High School added 10.

The Beavers jumped out to an early lead and took a 34-19 advantage at the half. They shot 15-28 from the field (53.6%) during that span and held the Yellow Jackets to only three baskets.

City Tech missed 30 of 33 attempts in the first half and amassed most of their points from the free thrown line in going 12-19. For the game, the Yellow Jackets were only 10-73 (17.85) against a stifling CCNY defense.

The teams essentially traded baskets in the second half, enabling the Lady Beavers to maintain a comfortable margin.

Amanda Zieminski led City Tech, now 3-8 and 0-4 in the CUNYAC, with 18 points. Dyshea Smiley chipped in 14 points and amassed a team high nine rebounds.
