Rockford 83, MacMurray 78

ROCKFORD, Ill. — What started out with a Regent lead of 7 became a surprisingly close game as the Regents of Rockford College took on the Highlanders of MacMurray College. The Regents posted 7 unanswered points early in the game before the Highlanders stormed back into the game, eventually reaching a 7-point lead of their own. With about five minutes left in the first half, the teams tied for the first time before the Regents eventually took the lead back from the Highlanders, ending the half up by 4. In the second half, the Regents and Highlanders played very closely, scoring 45 and 44 points respectively and mirroring each other several times from one play to the next. The Regents ran the lead up to 13 with 5:46 remaining in the game, and the Highlanders struggled to get back in the game. For the last two minutes, the Regents averaged a lead of 6, though, and came out on top 83-78.

The main firepower for the Highlanders came from junior Dawson Huff (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood), who had 23 points and 6 rebounds. Secondary firepower came from Neil Compton (Shelbyville, IL/Shelbyville) with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Eberhart (Troy, IL/Triad), who had 10 points.

The Regents were led by Jacob Dunkel (South Beloit, IL/South Beloit). Dunkel had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds as well as 2 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals. Lane Good (Chrisman, IL/Chrisman) had 18 points and 2 assists, and Maurice Smith (Loves Park, IL/Machesney Park Harlem) had 12 points. Dupree Powell (Rockford, IL/Jefferson) and Eric Meierdirk (Spring Grove, IL/Richmond Burton) each pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked a shot for the Regents. The Regents are now 9-6 and on a six-game win streak as they prepare to start conference play on January 14th at home against Aurora University.
