Eureka (4-8) junior Tim Peffer scored all 18 of his points in the first half and added six rebounds as EC raced out to a 39-24 lead at the halftime break. The Red Devils owned runs of 13-0 and 15-6 in the first 20 minutes.
Principia (0-7) made just three field goals over the final 12:30 of the game and shot 17.6 percent (6-34) in the second half. The 39 points allowed by Eureka is 23 points less than in any other game this season.
The Red Devils' bench combined for 32 points led by a career-high 12 from freshman Mark Darnall and nine from Brady Wildenradt.
Three-point shooting was a large factor in the game. Eureka connected on a season-best 11-of-25 (44 percent), while the Panthers were 2-for-21 (9.5 percent).
Freshman James Kowalski led Eureka with eight boards. A.J. Richard netted 13 points.
Jonah Swiderski paced Principia with 11 tallies and seven rebounds.
The Red Devils' 4-8 start equals their start to last season. They open conference play on Saturday, Jan. 7 at home against Concordia University, River Forest for a 3:30 p.m. start. The game is the second half of a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m. with the women's game.
