CHICAGO, Ill. — Thanks to a defensive effort that held North Park to just .364 (20-55) shooting, the Augustana Vikings picked up a 67-53 road victory in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opener for both teams. Augustana, now 11-1 overall, never trailed, getting a three point field goal from leading scorer Rick Harrigan to grab a 3-0 lead and building it to a nine point advantage (15-6 at 14:13) before the game was six minutes old. Eventually the lead would get to 18 in the first half (32-14 at 6:03) and in the second half it never got into single digits.

Harrigan led the way with 18 points as he was six of 10 from the floor, including four of seven from three point range, and two of two from the free throw line. He also grabbed two rebounds, had an assist and two steals. Jay McAdams-Thornton scored 16 points by going seven of 14 from the field and two of two from the free throw line with five rebounds, an assist and a steal. Dain Swetalla continues to make good progress on his way back from an ankle injury that sidelined him for four games. He scored eight points and pulled down a game high nine rebounds. Mike Kolze also had eight points.

Drew Wessels, Dain Swetalla, Nate Swetalla, Pat Brusveen and Oliver Rorer all had two assists.

Augustana shot .473 (26-55) from the floor and .444 (8-18) from three point range while holding a 34-29 advantage in rebounding.

Jason Gordon and Ed Whitaker led North Park in scoring with 16 points apiece.
