With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Muskingum improved to 7-4, 3-2 in the league.
Five of head coach Doug Foote's players finished in double figures. Sophomore Matt Phillips (Williamson, W. Va./Tug Valley) scored a team-high 18 points and added a career-high 10 rebounds. Ten of his 18 points came from the free throw line.
Freshmen Steve Luckhardt (Shadyside) and Isaiah Creasap (Wooster/Northwestern) each finished with career highs in points. Luckhardt had 15, while Creasap finished with 13.
Sophomore Craig Stewart (Circleville) added 14 points and junior Matt Rucker (Proctorville/Chesapeake) had 12.
As a team, Marietta shot 31-of-61 (.508) from the field, including 8-of-26 (.308) from beyond the arc. Muskingum, meanwhile, finished 35-of-72 (.486) from the floor, but hit 10-of-25 (.400) from long range. The Muskies also won the battle of the boards 45-28.
Individually, Brandon Todd led Muskingum with 26 points and 10 assists. In addition, Zach Ross and Trevor Scott each had 19 points and Cole Pittis finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Marietta will return to action Saturday (Jan. 11) when it plays host to John Carroll on Alumni Day. Tip-off is 3 p.m.
