After the Colonels opened a 26-19 lead in the first half, the Pacers closed the opening stanza on a 10-5 run to go into half down 31-29. Marywood managed to stay in the game in the first half by converting 13 points off of Wilkes turnovers.
Wilkes came out strong in the second half and built a 44-39 lead on a pair of Steve Kline free throws, but the Colonels missed other charity stripe chances to extend their lead. The Pacers, meanwhile, continued to chip away at the Colonel lead and eventually took the lead when Josh Slee hit a pair of free throws to put Marywood up 45-44.
Down 50-52, Lawrence Tompkins and Adam Wildasin hit back-to-back three pointers as the Pacers retook the lead, 56-52. Chris Shovlin made a pair of free throws for Wilkes to knot the game at 61-61, but Matt Chapman’s 4-foot jumper after he drove the lane put the Pacers up two with 4.6 seconds left. A last second effort by the Colonels resulted in a turnover, and Marywood killed the remaining .2 seconds to seal the win.
Despite a game-high 21-point effort by Chris Shovlin, the Colonels hit just 16 of 27 free throws on the night. Evan Walters chipped in 11 for Wilkes and grabbed a game-high 11 boards.
Tim Smallwood led the Marywood effort with a 15-point performance on 6-14 shooting from the floor. Adam Wildasin chipped in 13 and Matt Chapman and Lawrence Tompkins each added 10. Tompkins grabbed a team-high 10 boards for the Pacers.
Marywood returns to action Saturday when they host PAC rival Gwynedd-Mercy at 4:00 pm.
