Buena Vista 73, Cornell 56

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — Brian Fogleman scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Buena Vista University men's basketball team to a 73-56 Iowa Conference road victory over Cornell College. Fogleman, who had missed the team's previous three games, set a new career high by going 9 of 11 from the field.

Trailing 11-4 three minutes into the game, Buena Vista went on a 24-5 run over the next 13 minutes and never let Cornell get within seven points the rest of the way. During the Beaver first half run, the Rams made just two of 18 shots from the floor.

Jesse Schmidt contributed 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots as Buena Vista improved to 4-7 on the year, 2-0 in the IIAC. Andre Wagner chipped in 10 points for the Beavers, who owned a 48-27 rebounding advantage.

Griffin LaDew led Cornell with 15 points and three assists. Tyler Cody added 11 points as the Rams fell to 1-9 on the year, 0-1 in the Iowa Conference.

Buena Vista shot 29 and 64 (45%) from the field and led 33-23 at halftime. Cornell connected on 20 of 62 (32%) field goal attempts

Buena Vista has now won three consecutive meetings with Cornell. The Beavers will continue Iowa Conference play on Saturday by traveling to Loras College, who upset pre-season conference favorite Wartburg College on Wednesday night.
