Playing its first game after a 23-day layoff for winter break, Lebanon Valley (5-5) won its third game in a row. The Flying Dutchmen now advance to Wednesday’s tournament championship game, where it will face UMass-Dartmouth at 5 p.m. The Corsairs defeated Roanoke 87-78 in other first-round game.
Lebanon Valley and Ferrum (3-8) were playing each other for just the second time ever. The other meeting also occurred in the first round of the Roanoke Tournament, when LVC defeated the Panthers 76-55 in its 1998-99 season opener.
The Dutchmen never trailed after outscoring Ferrum 11-0 over the opening 2:27. Enoch keyed the early run with seven points and capped it with a three-pointer.
Ferrum pulled to within seven with 10:27 left in the opening half before a 10-0 LVC run, sparked by consecutive three-pointers from freshman guard Dan Hodge, pushed the Dutchmen’s lead to 17 (30-13) with 8:50 on the clock. A lay-up from freshman forward Eric Humphrey with 2:26 to go had Lebanon Valley up by 23, and the Dutchmen took a 48-27 lead into the locker room.
Lebanon Valley shot 53.8% in the opening half while holding the Panthers to a 29.7% mark.
Ferrum worked its way back into the game in the second half, thanks to a 12-0 run midway through the stanza that made it a 10-point game (56-46) with 10:50 left. The Panthers reduced the deficit to single digits (66-57) with 3:07 remaining following a 6-0 surge, but that’s as the close as they would get. The Dutchmen scored the next seven points, capped by a conventional three-point play from Hodge with 54 ticks showing, to build an insurmountable 16-point (73-57) lead.
Enoch shot 7-for-10 from the field and was 3-for-6 from three-point range. He also tied season-highs with seven rebounds and four steals.
In his first game back after an ankle injury on Dec. 3 that forced him to sit out LVC’s final two games of the first semester, junior forward Dave Kasyan scored 13 points and made a career-high five blocked shots to go with seven rebounds.
Hodge finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including a 2-for-3 effort from beyond the arc, while junior guard Jimmy Curran had 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Senior forward Dan Hogan led all players with 14 rebounds.
Humphrey added a season-high eight points on 4-for-6 shooting while sophomore center Luke Foster had three blocked shots, giving him 11 over his last four games.
Lebanon Valley shot 46.2% for the game and was 46.7% (7-for-15) from three-point territory.
Ferrum, which shot just 34.2%, was led by Rob Fuller’s 12 points.
