The Crusader defense dominated in the first half, holding the Patriots to just 15 points and opening up a 35-15 lead at the break. UMHB shot 48 per cent from the field in the opening half and held the Patriots to 20 per cent shooting. The Crusaders stretched the lead to as many as 22 points in the second half and UT-Tyler never closed the gap to less than 13 the rest of the way. The Crusaders also dominated the boards, out rebounding UT-Tyler 48-25 in the victory. The Patriots hit 9-27 from three-point range, while UMHB went 0-9 from beyond the arc.
Brandon Gatlin led UMHB with 14 points on 7-10 shooting from the field. Patrick Oliver added 12 points and seven rebounds and Ryan Burgart chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and five blocked shots. Brandon Weasby led UT-Tyler with 17 points, Joe Henderson added 13 points and Mirada Reed added 11 points for the Patriots.
The UMHB men will now return home to host a pair of ASC games this week. The Crusaders will host East Texas Baptist for a 7:30 PM start on Thursday before welcoming LeTourneau University to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 3:00 PM start on Saturday.
