With the score tied at 64-64, the Violets (10-0) used a 9-3 run to grab a 74-67 lead with 35 seconds left in the overtime. After a layup by Brian Chambers with 25 seconds left, the Dolphins pulled to within 74-69. However, senior Jared Kildare connected on two foul shots to push NYU's lead to 76-69. Mt. St. Vincent scored on a layup at the buzzer to close the game at 78-71.
The Violets began the game on a 9-0 run and held a 16-13 lead with 12:54 left in the first half. The Dolphins would not get any closer in the opening stanza as the Violets finished the half on a 23-14 run to claim a 39-25 lead at intermission.
Mt. St. Vincent scored the first six points of the second half to cut the margin to 39-31. The Violets responded and pushed their lead up to 15, 51-36, off a three-pointer by junior Matt Basford. But the Dolphins used a 19-5 over the next seven minutes to pull within 56-55 with 5:54 left. NYU returned the favor and took a 64-58 lead with 2:07 remaining. They did not score again. Mt. St. Vincent held the Violets scoreless over the final two minutes and tied the contest, 64-64, on a layup by Charles Hernandez.
Kildare totaled 17 points and became the 22nd player in NYU men's basketball history to score 1,000 or more points for his career. Kildare has totaled 1,005 career points.
Junior Daniel Falcon amassed 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, while Basford added 15 points in the win.
James Mooney posted a game-high 20 points to lead the Dolphins (3-8).
