Macalester 61, Concordia-Moorhead 60

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Tom Conboy scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Brendan Bosman added 22 points and six boards, as Macalester rallied for a 61-60 win over Concordia Monday night in St. Paul. The Scots improve to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 4-5 overall, 3-2 in the MIAC.

Trailing by four points midway through the second half, Concordia staged a 12-2 run to turn a 52-48 deficit into a 60-54 lead with 3:25 remaining. Macalester cut the lead to four points with a pair of Bosman free throws at 1:47.

A Concordia offensive foul at 1:33 was followed by two quick technicals on the Cobber bench. Bosman then converted three of four free throws to pull the Scots to within at single point at 60-59. Conboy picked up a steal on Concordia’s next possession and then was fouled after getting an offensive rebound with :24 to play. He made both foul shots to put Mac on top by its final margin of 61-60.

Concordia had a final chance to win but a baseline jumper by Luke Linz in the final seconds was off the mark.

Linz scored 15 points to pace the Cobbers. He was joined in double figures by Jason Miller with 14 points, Brock Citterman with 11 and Anthony Boike with 10.

Macalester earned an 18-4 advantage of the offensive glass to help offset a 36% shooting performance.

The Scots play Wednesday (Jan. 4) at Hamline, while Concordia plays Wednesday at Carleton.
