Cory McDaniel scored a game-high 18 points Monday as the Averett University basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 65-48 in a non-conference game.
The contest was tied at four before the Cougars rattled off 26 of the next 35 points to take a 30-13 advantage. McDaniel scored 16 of his game-high point total in the first half and hit four three pointers.
Senior Matt Sweeney (Hollywood, MD/Leonardtown) scored a team-high 13 points for Lynchburg. Senior Andy Albright (Hudson, OH/Hudson) hit three three-pointers and ended with nine points, and Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) added eight.
Averett (8-3) shot 50 percent from the floor (25-50) and held LC to just 36 percent shooting from the field (16-45). Andrew Boor scored nine for the Cougars and Sterling Williams and Shaun Hagwood each had eight points.
Lynchburg (1-10) hosts Virginia Wesleyan College Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game at 7 p.m.
