The win was the 21st straight for the Choctaws who set a new school record with their 26th win. They have now reached the ASC championship game seven straight years.
The Choctaws jumped out to an early 17-4 lead sparked by great outside shooting. McMurry then went on an 8-2 run to bring them to within 7, 19-12 with 11:40 in the first half. Mississippi College expanded their lead from there to 34-19 with 4:49 before halftime. McMurry was able to put another run together and go into the locker room only down 45-37.
In the first nine minutes of the second half, the Choctaws were able to keep McMurry at arms length, with 11:02 left in the game, 56-47, Choctaws. Tensions were high as 3 technical fouls were called in the half. The Indians made several small runs but were unable to put anything together. Mississippi College held on to win 90-79.
Leading scorers for Mississippi College, Devin Jones with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jaszmine Eugene had 17 and Orlando Lewis with 11. Mississippi College improves to 26-1 on the season.
For McMurry, Russell Raymond had 18 points. Elijah Bryant with 14 and Fred Baker with 12 points and a game high 13 rebounds. The Indians season ends with a 18-9 record.
MC advances to face the winner of Howard Payne and Mary Hardin-Baylor.
