“I know that it was a tough decision for 4 of our 6 seniors to come to Huntingdon College as we were making the transition into NCAA Division III play,” said Coach Tony Duckworth, “Knowing that as a provisional team, it didn’t matter how well they played, they wouldn’t have the chance to play beyond this point for their first several seasons. This was a chance to show their perseverance as we made a nice three year run, coming full circle from struggling to win five ball games to winning a conference championship with our 13th win in a row. Now all we can hope for is a chance to play one more. We’ve done all we can do ourselves, and it’s up to the NCAA if we’ll get to move into the tournament.”
Allen White capped his senior season performance by adding tournament Most Valuable Player honors to his G.S.A.C. Player of the Year award. He scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Maryville, giving him 46 points and 21 rebounds in a pair of tournament games.
Cole Hairston added 16 points and 8 rebounds to the Hawks cause. Brandon Addison also reached double-figure scoring with 10 points, seven of them coming in the game’s final three minutes to help hold off a late Maryville charge.
The Scots were led by Bo Mason’s 13 points. Next was Bobby Golden with 8 points. He scored seen of those in the game’s opening moments and was shut down the rest of the way.
The NCAA Division III Basketball Committees will make their tournament selections by 9:00 p.m. Central time on Sunday, February 26, with the brackets being released at 7:00 a.m. Central time on Monday, February 27. The information will be available on www.ncaasports.com.
