“I just knew that these guys would not be denied with the game on the line,” said Coach Tony Duckworth.
Huntingdon opened the game on a 13 to 2 run to control the game in the early moments. But as expected the Bulldogs made a strong run at the close of the first half, fueled by four 3-pointers from Chris Adams. Fisk opened up a lead that stretched to 10-points early in the second half before Huntingdon answered with 14 unanswered points of their own.
The lead changed hands four more times before the game’s final moments as Fisk scored on a pair of free throws from Jeremiah Williamson with 1:34 remaining in the game for a 56 to 52 lead, but the Hawks’ defense shut them down from there while picking up a three-pointer from Stephen Suits, a lay-up by Cole Hairston off an inbound pass and a free throw from Hairston. Jon Dodd cleared the rebound from Williamson’s miss with 2.6 seconds remaining to secure the Huntingdon win.
One of the keys for the Hawks was limiting Chris Adams to only two second-half points. He led the Bulldogs with 14 along with the same from Marquis Patton and 11 from Jeremiah Williamson. Huntingdon was led by G.S.A.C. Player of the Year, Allen White with 22 points and 10 rebounds. No other Huntingdon player made it to double figure scoring or rebounding.
Huntingdon faces the winner of the Maryville/LaGrange semi-final match-up. The championship contest is set for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
