The Pioneers will face Lawrence in the championship game after the Vikings defeated Knox College 88-62 in the other semifinal.
Six other Carroll players joined Scheper with double-digits in points. Juniors Buck Colomy and Nathan Drury chipped in with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while freshman Trevor Stratton came off the bench to add 14 points.
Carroll set new team records for most points (153), field goals made (64) and assists (51) in a game.
Drury fell one assist shy of tying the school record for most assists in a game (15) while junior Ben Fischer came off the bench to record 10 assists and 10 points.
Sophomores Pat Stilp and Keith Johnson scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, to complete Carroll’s double-digit scorers.
The Pioneers jumped out to an 81-60 halftime lead after shooting 81.4% from the field in the opening 20 minutes of the game. Carroll “cooled off” in the second half with just 67.4% shooting.
In all, 17 different Carroll players recorded at least two points.
“We’re very happy to get the chance to go back to the finals,” said head coach David Schultz. “It’s going to be a very exciting tournament finale.”
Carroll will meet Lawrence in the tournament for the third consecutive year and will try to avoid its third consecutive elimination at the hands of the Vikings.
