Wheaton's Senior co-captain Tony Bollier entered tonight’s game as the Division III leader in free throw percentage for this season. Bollier ends the season with a 92.9% (104-112) free throw percentage to set a new Wheaton single-season record, breaking the previous mark of 92.7% (38-41) set by Ronn Smith in the 1992-93 season. Bollier also concluded his career tonight with a 90.3% (195-216) career free throw percentage to break Smith’s career free throw percentage school record of 88.9% (112-126).
Wheaton used a 13-3 scoring run to turn a 12-9 lead with 11:50 remaining in the first half into a 25-12 advantage with 8:00 left before halftime. The Thunder continued to build up its first half lead, holding a 44-23 advantage at halftime. In the second half the Red Men could never get closer to Wheaton than a 15- point deficit when the Thunder held a 52-37 lead with 15:00 remaining in the game.
Thunder freshman Andy Wiele led all scorers with 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field. Sophomore guard John Mohan scored 16 points, with five assists and two steals. Junior Johnnie Standard scored 12 points, with five rebounds and four assists. Bollier ended his solid career with 11 points, three assists and three steals. Fellow senior Jordan Kemper also went out on a strong performance, collecting his sixth “double-double” of the season. Kemper scored 10 points, set game-highs with 14 rebounds and six assists. Junior forward Michael Fiddler was the sixth Thunder player to score in double-digits, with 10 points on the night.
Kyle Jeffery led Carthage with 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range. Mark Morrison scored 14 points, with seven rebounds. Trey Bowens scored 12 points with four assists.
Wheaton shot a blistering 63.5% (33-52) from the field tonight, with 60% (9-15) from three-point range and 60% (15-25) at the free throw line. Carthage had a 39.7% (25-63) field goal percentage, with 33.3% (10-30) from behind the three-point arc and 66.7% (6-9) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Red Men 37-26, but Carthage held a 12-10 edge on the offensive glass.
