Colby-Sawyer 63, Salve Regina 48

NEWPORT, R.I. — Andrew St. Clair scored 18 points, giving him 1,996 for his career, to lead the Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team to a 63-48 victory over Salve Regina in the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament on Tuesday night in Newport, R.I.

St. Clair, who came into the game needing 22 points to give him 2,000, hit 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-8 from the foul line to tally his 18 points on the night, leading all scorers. The senior also pulled down nine rebounds, tying him with James Thorpe for team-high honors.

Thorpe chipped in with 10 points on the night, including a three-pointer at the end of the first half that sent the Chargers into the locker room with a 31-22 lead. Following the break, Colby-Sawyer came out on a 9-2 run over the first five minutes of the second half to push the lead to 16, 40-24. The Seahawks would cut the lead down to as low as eight points, 48-40, on a jumper by Andrew Rego with 8:12 remaining, but a 7-0 run by the Chargers put the game safely out of reach.

In addition to his 10 points, Thorpe added nine rebounds. Tyler Fournier and Collin Bray also scored in double-digits for the Chargers, adding in 10 points each.

Rego scored 13 points for team-high honors for Salve Regina, while Matt Coute added 10 points and Matt Grendal had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer (16-9) advances to face Gordon, the top seed in the tournament, at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Wenham, Mass. Salve Regina falls to 17-9 on the year with the loss.
