The Cazenovia women fell 34-71 to the Storm in the double-header’s 6:00 PM game. With the loss, the Wildcats conclude the season with an 8-18 overall record, a 7-8 record in regular-season conference play and 0-1 in the post-season. Keuka advances to play the Villa Julie Mustangs in Stevenson , Md. on Fri. Feb. 24. with the win. The Storm improve to 14-9 on the year, remain 12-4 in NEAC play and improve to 1-0 in post-season play.
Committing costly turnovers attempting to pass the ball over the much taller Keuka defense, the Wildcats went extremely cold from the field in the second half, eliminating any chance of a comeback.
Perennial all-conference selections Sarah Dorman and Lindsey Baker controlled every element of the Storm game. Baker finished with a team-high 16 points and five rebounds. Dorman, who made bounce-pass after bounce-pass inside to the awaiting Baker, finished with a game-high eight assists and five rebounds.
Cazenovia’s Ashley Lewis (’07, Whitesboro / Whitesboro HS) finished with a team-high 16 points, tying Baker for the game-high, and had five rebounds in the game.
The entire Cazenovia team recorded just five assists in the game. The Storm finished the game with 21 total helpers.
Cazenovia shot just 12.5 percent from the field in the second half and 17.5 percent in the game.
The Wildcats, who started the season 0-10 on the year, finished 8-8 in the final 16 games of the season.
Playing in a tight first half, the men’s game, at 8:00 PM , saw Keuka pull away in the second half for the 60-74 victory. The Wildcats conclude the season with an 8-18 overall record, a 7-9 record in conference play and an 0-1 record in the post-season. Keuka improves to 16-6 on the year, remains 11-5 in NEAC regular-season play in 2005-2006 and moves to 1-0 in the post-season.
Cazenovia pulled close to Keuka in the first half. After a Keuka run in the opening minutes, Cazenovia brought the game to a one-point margin at the 12 minute mark, 17-18. The Wildcats, however, would go cold from the field in the next ten minutes of play as the Storm went on a 0-7 run over the next ten minutes to expand the advantage, 17-25.
Coming out of the locker-room down 29-23 at the start of the second half, the Wildcats would watch as the Hanif Davis led Storm pull away. Hanif, who led all scorers in the game, finished with 20 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Steven Zavackis finished the year on a high note for the Wildcats. Zavackis, who recorded a team-leading three assists on the night, recorded a double-double in the season finale by scoring a team-high 15 points and pulling down a team-high ten rebounds. Zavackis, who finished with two redirected shots, was the only player in the game to record a block.
Including two matchups in volleyball and two games in soccer, Keuka is undefeated this year in NEAC competition with the Wildcats. Cazenovia is 0-8 verse the storm in NEAC competition in 2005-2006.
Finishing with an overall record of 8-18, Cazenovia improved on its 6-win 2004-2005 season.
