The game was close throughout the contest, as the Sea Gulls stayed close enough to eventually take the lead late for the one-point victory. Gallaudet controlled the tempo early, as they led by as many as nine points, 20-11, with 9:28 remaining in the first half.
Salisbury would cut the lead to three by halftime and would hold brief leads early in the second half. Gallaudet would then stretch the lead to as much as six, 47-41, with 7:57 left in the game. Odumeru and Williams, however would score 12 of Salisbury’s final 15 points to lead Salisbury’s remarkable comeback to stay alive in the tournament.
Odumeru led the Sea Gulls in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-20 shooting and tied teammate Kyle Harmon (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) in rebounds with six to lead the team. Odumeru also recorded tow blocks and six steals on the evening. Williams contributed 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting in the Salisbury win.
Gallaudet’s Robert Haney Jr. (Ft. Wayne, IN/Indiana) recorded a double-double as he led all scorers with 37 points on 13-of-23 shooting and pulled down 12 rebounds and recorded four blocks in the defeat.
As a team, Salisbury shot 32.8% (20-of-61) from the field, compared to Gallaudet’s 38.5% (20-of-52). Gallaudet held the rebounding advantage, 41-32, but was hurt by 19 turnovers, to which Salisbury used to their advantage, scoring 17 points off of Gallaudet turnovers.
