RIC KNOCKS UMASS BOSTON FROM TOP SPOT
Pierlioni’s Double-Double Helps Anchormen Down Beacons, 79-72
Providence, RI—Rhode Island College downed UMass Boston, 79-72, in the final regular season game of the season for both clubs. The Anchormen improve to 16-8 overall and 9-5 in the Little East Conference. The Beacons fall to 15-10 overall and 10-4 in the LEC.

RIC is the third seed in the upcoming Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. If the Beacons had won, they would have shared the regular season title with Keene State and been the top seed in the tourney. UMB is now the second seed and will host seventh-seeded Eastern Connecticut on Feb. 21.

Junior forward Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) posted his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, both of which were career-highs. Three other Anchormen scored in double figures led by senior guard Kevin Payette’s (Woonsocket, RI) 14 points. He also contributed four boards, three assists and two big three-point baskets in the second half. Junior guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) had 12 points, three boards, five assists and two steals. Junior forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) had 13 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Cameron Stewart (Newport, RI) hit a three-pointer with 1:07 remaining to help ice the game for the Anchormen.

UMass Boston junior forward Tony Barros (Dorchester, MA) led all scorers with 21 points. Barros, who shot 5-for-13 in the first half, was just 1-for-9 in the second frame. Sophomore guard Amigo Paniagua (Santiago, DR) had 17 points and seven rebounds.
