Union 64, RPI 61

TROY, N.Y. — Senior guard Erica Eisenhut (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) scored 28 points and junior forward Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead Union College to a 64-61 victory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the regular season finale for both teams at Robison Gym Saturday.

Union improves to 17-7 overall and 11-3 in the Liberty League, while the Red Hawks fall to 14-9 overall and 8-6 in the league. Both teams will compete in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament to be held next Friday and Saturday at William Smith. Union, the third seed, will face second-seeded St. Lawrence (18-7 overall) and fourth-seeded Rensselaer will take on top seed William Smith (19-5) in Friday's semifinals. Times are to be announced.

The Dutchwomen held off a furious second half charge by the Red Hawks for the victory. Union led by 13 at halftime (39-26), and by as many as 18, at 54-36 with 11:50 remaining in the second half. But the Red Hawks went on a 9-1 run in the next 3:55 to pull to within 55-46, including four points from Coleman. Union led by 10 at 61-51 with 3:33 left in regulation but Renssealer went on an 8-1 run in the next 1:19 to make it 62-59. Union freshman guard Selin Whitham (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor) made two free throws with 22 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Eisenhut made 9 of 18 from the floor, including six three-pointers, with four assists and two steals. Freshman guard Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) added seven points for Union, winners of nine of the last 11.

Freshman guard Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda), who scored 22 points on 10 of 17 shots from the floor, led Rensselaer. Junior forward Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and freshman guard Caitlyn Charest (Swansea, MA/LaSalle Academy) had nine points each, while Charest dished out a game-high six assists and Baranowski pulled down nine rebounds.

Union had a 42-38 rebounding advantage for the contest, while the hosts shot 40% for the game and the Dutchwomen shot 34%.
