Augsburg 59, Macalester 58

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Justin Kozlowski scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half with the help of four three-pointers, and Augsburg snapped a 14-game losing streak, edging Macalester 59-58 Saturday in St. Paul in the season-finale for both teams. The Auggies close out at 4-21 overall, 3-17 in the MIAC, while Macalester finishes at 7-18 on the season and 6-14 in league play.

Kevin Keto came off the bench to add 11 points and three steals, while blocking a potential game-winning Macalester 10-foot shot with just one second left in the contest. Dan Graf pulled down 10 rebounds.

Tom Conboy and Brendan Bosman each had double-doubles to lead the Scots. Conboy had 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Bosman provided 15 points and 11 boards.

Augsburg enjoyed a 25-4 advantage in points off turnovers and held the Scots to a 36% shooting figure.

The Auggies led 32-30 at the break and extended their lead to 14 points at 52-38 with 8:40 to play. Macalester chipped away at the lead and pulled to within four points at 53-49 with 3:03 to play. The game was close the rest of the way.

Augsburg led 57-51 with :54 to play before Mac staged a last-ditch rally. A Conboy basket at :44 made it a four-point game. Conboy missed his free throw while going for the three-point play, but got the rebound and scored inside to made it 57-55 with :42 to play. A pair of Keto free throws at :32 made the lead four points before another Conboy inside bucket at :22 cut the lead to two points again at 59-57.

Bosman made a free throw with :03 remaining after an offensive rebound to get Mac to within one point but missed the second attempt. Macalester got possession again after the rebound went out of bounds. After an Augsburg timeout, Macalester’s went for the win on a 10-foot shot from the baseline by Jesse Hollander, which was blocked by Keto.
