Elms 96, Johnson State 68

CHICOPEE, Mass. — Elms College junior guard David Williams (Hartford, CT) poured in a game-high 22 points and the Blazers used a big run early in the second half to pull away to a convincing 96-68 win over Johnson State College in Saturday afternoon’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men’s basketball regular season finale for both teams at the Maguire Center.

Elms College won its season-high seventh straight game to finish the regular season 19-6 overall, 14-1 NAC. The Blazers secured the NAC West Division title and can tie last year’s school-record for wins in a season on Tuesday, February 21 in the quarterfinal round of the NAC Tournament against an opponent to be determined.

Johnson State, which went 5-21 a year ago, finished its 2005-06 season 7-18 overall, 2-13 NAC.

The Blazers led by only five (41-36) at intermission before going on a 20-6 run in the first 6:02 of the second half to put the game out of reach.

Despite shooting 41.6-percent for the game, the Blazers held a decisive edge in total rebounds (64-35), including 29-9 on the offensive boards.
