Rose-Hulman took an early lead that reached as many as four at 14-10 before the Tigers grabbed the lead for good at 23-22 on Reid Sakel's three-pointer that started a 7-0 run. DePauw went to the break with a 36-27 lead.
DePauw scored the first four points of the second half to push the lead to 40-27, but the Engineers put together 15-4 run over the next 3:10 to close to 44-42 with 15:17 remaining. The Tigers still held a 59-56 advantage with 5:36 left, but back-to-back threes by Alex Stewart and Todd Capes pushed it back to nine. The Tigers outscored the Engineers 9-2 over the final 1:34 to take the win.
Stewart led five DePauw double-figure scorers with 16, while Stephen Schott recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Capes, Brian Oilar and Sakel each added 11. Stewart and Moore each dished out four assists.
Munchie Muskeyvalley led Rose-Hulman with 20 points followed by Brennan Dunville with 11 and Jason Bednarko with 10. Dunville and Lorenzo Rice each grabbed seven rebounds and Jared Moore recorded six assists.
DePauw shot 48.9 percent from the floor and held the Engineers to just 32.8 percent including just 30 percent in the first half. The Tigers outrebounded Rose-Hulman 39-32.
Both teams open play in the SCAC Tournament at Rhodes on Friday, February 24. DePauw will be either a fourth or fifth seed and will play the 8 p.m. quarterfinal game.
