Capital 76, Baldwin-Wallace 71

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital University's men's basketball team outscored No. 3 Baldwin-Wallace 46-29 in the second half and won their fourth Ohio Athletic Conference game in a row, upsetting the Yellow Jackets 76-71 at The Capital Center in Columbus, Ohio.

With the win, Capital extends their longest winning streak of the season and improves their record to 12-12, 9-9 in the OAC. Baldwin-Wallace has now lost two in a row after being ranked third in the country at the beginning of the week and falls to 22-4, 15-3 in the conference.

Each team came to score at the outset of the first half, as the score was tied 11-11 with 16:37 to play. Baldwin-Wallace looked as if they would take over as they led 27-21 with 8:44 to play when they went on a 12-3 run to gain a 39-24 lead.

Capital would cut the margin to 12 as they went into the locker room to try and figure out how to stop the Yellow Jacket offense which shot 58% in the first period.

The Crusaders would chip away at the double-digit over the first eight minutes of the second period, but it was a 12-4 run that spanned six minutes that pulled Capital to within four at 56-52 with 8:40 to play.

Freshman forward Quintin Mitchell came off the bench to score seven of the 12 points in the run.

Capital would tie the game at 68-68 with a minute to play on two free-throw shots from Mitchell and then take their first lead of the contest on a Nate Stahl layup off of a steal from sophomore guard Pat Stolly.

Baldwin-Wallace turned the ball over three times in the last minute and a half of the game and Capital knocked down its final eight free-throws to preserve the upset of the No.3 ranked Yellow Jackets, the final score being 76-71.

Stahl scored a game-high 24 points for the Crusaders and sophomore forward Jake Meisler posted his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards.

The Crusaders got 21 points from their bench, fueled by Mitchell and Stolly. Mitchell scored nine points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, while Stolly scored seven, dished out five assists and had three steals.

Tori Davis led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points, while Brandon Schuler tallied 14.

Next up for the Crusaders is a trip to the OAC tournament on Wednesday. Capital's seed and opponent are yet to be determined, but they will play their game on Wednesday on the road.
