Caltech jumped out to a 14-5 lead. La Verne chipped away at the lead, eventually gaining a tie at 14. The game see-sawed through the middle of the half then the Leos spurted to a 9-point lead (33-21) with 3:21 remaining. Caltech put together a 9-1 run to get to the half down 4, 34-30.
The early second half was Caltech closing to within 1 with 16:00 minutes to play. But La Verne use 7 consecutive points from Tyrone Marshall to establish a cushion they would never relinquish. The mounting foul trouble for Caltech forced too many players to play too many minutes and La Verne closed-out the game for a solid 10 point victory, 75-65.
La Verne shot 51% for the game and Caltech was 47%. From the free throw line, the visitors were 17 of 38 and Caltech 12 for 18. La Verne next hosts CMS in their final home game. Caltech hosts Whittier on Monday as well for their final home game before finishing at Occidental next Thursday.
