The Boxers used a pair of 23-point performances from Branden Kawazoe and Ross Bartlett to run their record to 10-14 (4-11 NWC) and double their win total over last season. Kyle Motta finished with 15 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.
Whitman (9-15, 5-11 NWC) saw the starters score all but six of their points as they were outshot by the Boxers 48 percent (27-56) to 43 percent (29-67). Kyle Born led the Missionaries with 17 points. Ian Warner added 14 and Matt Kelly connected for 13. Erik Kofler's eight rebounds led a 46-28 advantage on the boards.
The Missionaries led things early, building an 8-3 advantage on Kelly's jumper at the 16:25 mark. Kawazoe then started his scoring, connecting on a lay-in and three-pointer to tie the game at 8-8. Whitman led 11-10 when two more Kawazoe three-pointers and a trey from Mison Henley opened up a 19-11 lead midway through the stanza.
Kelly narrowed the lead to one, 24-21, before Motta's jumper opened a 12-2 run that gave Pacific their largest lead of 34-23 with 28 seconds left in the half. Kelly narrowed it to a 34-26 halftime edge with his three-pointer at the buzzer, Whitman's only long ball of the stanza.
Whitman started the second with a run of their own, using jumpers by Kelly and Greg Ricker to cut the lead to 37-36 in the first four minutes of the stanza. Warner took the lead with 12:50 remaining and Kelly's jumper made it a 47-44 Whitman edge. The Boxers would not relent, using buckets by Motta and Kawazoe to run the lead back to eight, 57-49, with 9:33 left. Whitman answered back, tying the game at 59-59 on Born's three-pointer.
Bartlett fueled the next Boxer run, scoring six points in a 12-2 run as the Boxers led 71-61 with 1:36 left. A pair of quick three-pointers by Ricker and Kofler cut the lead to four with a minute left. A pair of Kofler free throws and a Ricker lay-in cut the lead to two with 12 seconds left, but a pair of Motta free throws with two seconds left secured the winning margin.
