Methodist 56, Shenandoah 41

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - — Shenandoah University suffered through its season worst shooting night of the 2005-06 season Friday night in a 56-41 USA South Conference men’s basketball loss at Methodist College.
Shenandoah (9-14, 1-10 USA South) shot just 16 for 67 (23.9 percent) from the field and 5 for 17 (29.4 percent) from the line as Methodist (8-16, 6-5) evened the season series with the Hornets. This win also made MC coach David Smith the school’s all-time coaching wins leader.
With the score tied at 21-21 to start the second half, SU saw its hosts seize control of the contest with a 13-3 run to start the final 20 minutes. After Moutkar Fawehinmi converted the initial bucket of the second, the Monarchs ripped off 13 of the games next 14 points over a span of 5:48 to take a 34-24 lead with 13:45 remaining.
The Hornets answered with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 36-36 with 8:04 left, but Robert Lee nailed a three-pointer on Methodist’s next trip down the floor and SU would not get closer than five points the rest of the way.
MC finished the game with another 13-3 run to allow them to cruise to the 15-point victory.
Junior Stevie Johns led all scorers with 13 points while sophomore Jeremiah Lawrence pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. Eugene Grant and Robert Lee both had 12 points for the Monarchs.
