Castleton State 67, Elms 45

CHICOPEE, Mass. — Elms College senior forward Danielle Dugre (Holyoke, MA) notched her ninth double-double of the season, but the Blazers fell to Castleton State College 67-45 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s basketball game Friday night at the Maguire Center.

Dugre dropped in 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, but Elms College fell to 9-14 on the season, 8-9 in the NAC. The win improved Castleton State’s record to 15-9 overall, 12-5 in conference.

The Blazers trailed by 10 at the halftime intermission, but pulled within six points at 41-35 after two free throws from freshman forward Shauna Sullivan (Chicopee, MA). However, the Spartans went on an 11-0 run over the next 7:49 to put the game out of reach.

Sullivan scored 10 points on the night while sophomore guard Michelle Fernandes (Danbury, CT) added 11 points to round out the Blazers scoring in double figures.

Leading the way for the Spartans was freshman guard Mary Nienow (Middlebury, VT) with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

The Blazers close out the regular season with a home NAC game with Johnson State College. Tip off will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18 at the Maguire Center.
