The Owls improved to 17-7 overall and 9-2 in the Mass. State Conference. Westfield shares first place with Salem State, which posted an 88-80 home victory over Bridgewater State this evening.
Westfield would host the four-team conference postseason tournament Feb. 24-25 with a victory in its final regular season game at MCLA on Saturday, Feb. 18. MCLA did post its first conference victory of the season tonight by outscoring Fitchburg State, 85-81,
Framingham concludes its season at 9-14 and 3-9.
Westfield again dominated the opposition with all five starters scoring in double figures, and excellent shooting from 3-point range (9-for-16) and the foul line (20-for-25).
The Owls led 43-31 at halftime and 76-50 when head coach Rich Sutter began taking out his starters with five minutes remaining in the game.
Freshman guard Dave Jaehnig (Quincy) had 15 points and four steals for the Owls, who shot 49 percent from the field. Junior forward Curtis Gadles (Pembroke) scored 14 points and senior forward Mike Jurkowski (Belchertown) tallied 13 points in 21 minutes of action. Junior point guard Gavin Illangakoon added 11 points and six assists.
Sophomore center Rob Scarpato (Hopkinton) led the Framingham with 13 points and nine rebounds.
