Austin 66, LeTourneau 40

LONGVIEW, TX — he Austin College men’s basketball team put on a clinic Thursday night at LeTourneau University and came away with a 66-40 American Southwest Conference East Division victory at the Solheim Arena.
The YellowJackets (7-17, 6-15) were smothered for most of the game by ‘Roos (3-21, 2-19) assortment of zone defenses that forced LeTourneau to take outside shots. Unfortunately for LETU, the team made just 2-of-26 three-pointers in the game and were just 16-of-56 from the field, overall.
Austin College took control of the game with a 15-0 run that encompassed 10:14 seconds from the end of the first half to the beginning of the second half. The ‘Roos had a balanced attack on offense that featured four players scoring in double figures. Anthony Holman led the team with 13 points and six rebounds, but was helped by 11 points from Brian Hambrick and 10 points apiece from James Hill and Adam Bishop.
AC scored 33 points in each half and shot 45.6 percent from the field. They were able to control the rebounding advantage as well, 43-33.
LeTourneau senior Travis Bankett and freshman Dewones Smith scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Jackets did manage 12 steals and converted 16 AC turnovers into 16 points.
LETU plays their final game of the season at home on Saturday against ASC East rival University of the Ozarks at 3 o’clock. It will be the final game for seniors Travis Bankett and Reese Lantrip. The game can be heard online at www.tsrnsports.com
