Westminster (Pa.) 111, Thiel 100

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Thiel College senior forward Damien Williams finished with a career-high 42 points in the Tomcats' 111-100 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Westminster College Wednesday evening in Greenville.

Williams finished 17-of-34 from the field, was six-of-six from the free throw line and added seven rebounds. Junior forward Geno Bianco added 21 points, 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks while freshman guard James Beedle and freshman guard Andre Jones finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Mark DeMonaco led five Titans (9-15, 6-5) in double figures with a team-high 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Brian Fadden added 18 points and 11 rebounds while Craig Hannon finished with 15 points and five rebounds. Greg Rosatelli and Brian Urso added 12 and 10, respectively.

Thiel (4-20, 1-10) broke a 33-33 tie with a 9-2 run to go up by seven (42-35) with just over five minutes to play in the first. Westminster took a 46-45 lead on a Chauncey Whitlow three-pointer before Williams brought the Tomcats back to within one (48-47) with 1:19 remaining. DeMonaco's lay up with 1:09 to play gave the Titans a 50-47 lead, which the carried into the half.

The Tomcats, trailing by 11 (80-69) with just under 11 to play, strung together a 12-2 run to cut the Titan lead to just one (82-81) with 8:43 remaining. Westminster used a 7-0 run to stretch their lead back to eight (89-81) with 6:47 to play while Thiel countered with a 9-3 run of their own to cut the Titan lead to two (92-90) with 5:16 remaining.

With Thiel down just two (96-94) Westminster outscored the Tomcats 15-6 over the final 2:44 in claiming the 11-point win.

Thiel will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they travel to PAC leader Bethany College for a 4 p.m. tip off.
