The Tommies secured a share of the MIAC championship -- their 11th under 26-year head coach Steve Fritz -- and wrapped up the top seed for next week's six-team conference playoffs. The Toms moved to 9-1 at home this season and reached 20 wins for the fourth time in seven seasons.
Second-place Carleton won again at home Wednesday night, 65-46 over St. Mary's. The Knights (16-3 MIAC) will tie the Tommies for the crown if they win Saturday at Bethel.
Junior guard Bryan Schnettler made three 3-pointers among his 15 points and broke the MIAC all-season records for threes. Erik Jackson of Macalester made 95 last season, and Schnettler now has 96 in 25 games.
Junior center Isaac Rosefelt also scored 15 points, senior forward Joey Shimek added 10 rebounds, and senior guard Sean Sweeney added nine points and five assists. UST outrebounded the Cobbers 39-25.
Sophomore forward Brock Citterman had 12 points to lead the Cobbers.
UST broke to a 29-12 advantage and led 32-20 at halftime. The Cobbers pulled within 39-33 with 12:52 to play on Eric Meichsner's 3-pointer, but Keating had eight points during an 17-2 run to build the lead to 21.
St. Thomas has its bye Saturday and will host an MIAC semifinal playoff game Thursday Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
