Catholic 81, Salisbury 69

SALISBURY, Md. — The Salisbury men’s basketball team (13-11, 7-6 CAC) dropped their final home game of the 2005-2006 regular season on Wednesday evening to the Cardinals of Catholic University (17-6, 9-4 CAC), 81-69. Junior guard Ray Williams led the scoring for the Sea Gulls with 19 points on 8-of-18 shooting.

In the first half, the Cardinals overwhelmed the Sea Gulls early and often, leading to a 15-point, 27-12 Catholic lead at the 12:31 mark. The Sea Gulls managed to get back into the game, however, outscoring the Cardinals 30-17 overall the final 12 minutes of the half.

In the second half, the Cardinals benefited from Salisbury’s foul trouble, as they were able to build their lead at the free throw line, making 10 of 12 shots in the final seven minutes to seal the 12-point victory for the Cardinals.

Aside from Williams, the Sea Gulls received a double-digit effort from junior Segun Odumeru, who scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting while adding four rebounds and four assists. Ozi Menakaya added eight rebounds off the bench to lead the Sea Gulls.

The Cardinals received double-digit efforts from five of their players, led by Pat Satalin and Patrick Dwyer who each had 15 points, with Dwyer adding nine rebounds. Shane Sowden added 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting and nine board, while Scott Fumai and Sean Stolzenthaler added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

For the game, Salisbury shot 48.4% (31-of-64) from the field, while Catholic shot 47.1% (24-of-51) from the field. Catholic held the rebounding advantage, 35 to 24.

Prior to the game, the team honored their graduating seniors and allowed Dameon Gibbs, Kyle Harmon, Aaron Meekins, Justice Rice, and Derrick Washington the chance to take the court at the start of the game together for the final time.
