Gettysburg 65, Johns Hopkins 58

BALTIMORE, Md. — Senior Mike Spadafora scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half and Gettysburg shot 57 percent in the second to gain a 65-58 win over Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference men's basketball at Goldfarb Gym on Wednesday.

Spadafora notched 11 of his game-high points in the final 8:26, including seven in a row over a span of 3:12, to give the Bullets (15-9, 11-6) a comfortable 11-point lead, at 51-41 with just over five minutes remaining.

For the evening, Spadafora shot eight-of-12 from the field and six-of-seven from the free throw line.

After making only 37 percent of their attempts from the field in the first half, Gettysburg hit on 15-of-26 in the second.

Junior Danny Nawrocki countered with 17 points for the Blue Jays (17-6, 13-4), who lost their second in a row. Nawrocki only scored four points in eight first-half minutes, but hit on five-of-six attempts from the field in the second half.

Nawrocki was the only Blue Jay in double figures. With the 17-point game, he upped his career point total to 974, checking in at 12th on the Hopkins career list.

After Gettysburg extended the lead to 12, a 13-3 run inside the four-minute mark of the second half got the Blue Jays as close as two, but four Spadafora free throws in the final 28 seconds sealed the win.

Brian Sateja and Erik Fromm added 12 a piece for the Bullets.

With the win, Gettysburg has locked itself into the third spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament, scheduled for Feb. 25-26.

Hopkins concludes the 2005-06 regular season on Saturday (Feb. 18), as the Blue Jays head to Franklin & Marshall for a 4 p.m. contest.
